Guidelines and policies:

Mighty Mu is an annual mathematics competition hosted by Palm Harbor University High School. Middle and elementary schools compete in divisions of mathematics based on grade level or subject area. Competitors will face off individually where the object is to score as many points possible within 60 minutes time. Accuracy and speed are valuable in this dynamic. Competitors will also face-off in a team-based round where again accuracy is important, but speed is a multiplier for scoring. Meeting Tuesdays after school, mathletes will learn content beyond their current course pace, and practice what is learned to simulate what the competition is like. Ultimately, our goal is to have as many of our competitors, teams and school place in the competition. While doing so, students will push their content knowledge further and share their love for mathematics with fellow enthusiasts.Middle School Divisions:

  • 6th Grade Mathematics
  • Pre-Algebra (7th Grade Accelerated Mathematics)
  • Algebra
  • Geometry

Competition Scoring:

Individual Tests:

Individual tests are scored the same as FAMAT tests. 5 points are earned for correctly answered questions, 1 point for questions left blank, and 0 points for incorrect answers (This is new, to prevent negative scores). There are 30 questions on each individual test, and each student has 60 minutes to answer all questions. There is a maximum score of 150 points.

Team Tests:

Each team question will consist of four parts: A, B, C, and part D (each which will require a distinct numerical or written answer). The team round will last for twelve questions. Accuracy in the parts of the round is needed to score, and that score is multiplied based on how fast the question is answered.
